How We Rate Sportsbook Bonus Offers

Lena Voss

8 years gambling-industry ops and editorial; sports betting beat since 2019; covered PASPA repeal aftermath and state-by-state rollouts

I spent eight years on the casino floor before moving to the press box covering US sports betting regulation and operator launches. Since 2019 I have personally tested sign-up flows, placed qualifying first bets, and timed withdrawals at more than a dozen licensed sportsbooks. On this site I break down bonus math and rollover traps so you know exactly what you are getting before you deposit.

I'm Lena Voss. Before I spent years writing about gambling math, I supervised table games on a casino floor — which means I read fine print for a living before "reading fine print" became a content niche. Every bonus page on this site reflects that background: I check the actual terms, run the rollover numbers, and flag the catches before I tell you whether an offer is worth your time.

What does my review process look like?

I start with the operator's own promotions page, not a third-party affiliate summary. Offers change fast — what a ranking site posted last month may not match today's terms. Once I have the current terms, I work through four questions:

  • What type of bonus is it? First-bet insurance, deposit match, bet match, profit boost — each works differently. I explain those structures on the sportsbook bonus types guide.
  • What is the real rollover cost? A $1,500 bonus sounds big. If it carries a 10× rollover and odds restrictions, you need to wager $15,000 at minimum odds before withdrawing a cent. I show the math, not just the headline number. The rollover requirements explainer covers how to calculate this yourself.
  • Which payment methods actually qualify? E-wallets and prepaid cards are frequently excluded from welcome bonus eligibility — details on that are in the qualifying payment methods page.
  • What are the tax consequences? Bonus-bet winnings are taxable income under IRS rules, full stop. I explain the reporting basics on the sportsbook bonus taxes page.

Which operators do I cover?

Only licensed US sportsbooks. I do not recommend offshore books — no state regulator, no consumer protection, meaningful non-payment risk. The main best sportsbook bonus offers ranked for 2026 page covers FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM, Fanatics, Caesars, and bet365. I update it when terms change.

For new bettors deciding where to sign up, I also publish a straight value ranking at best sportsbook welcome bonuses ranked by value, which puts the offers side by side on concrete attributes — dollar cap, rollover, odds restrictions, and expiry window.

How do I handle responsible gambling?

I flag minimum age rules and rollover traps on every relevant page. For independent guidance, RG.org's state-by-state regulations guide is a solid starting point. Must be 21+ in most states (18+ in a few). Gambling problem? Call 1-800-GAMBLER.

Got a question I haven't answered?

The sportsbook bonus questions answered page covers the most common ones — how bonus bets pay out, why withdrawals get held, and what rollover actually means in practice. If something is still unclear, that's on me to fix.
